Summer Musings

2017-09-19

Welcome to Indian summer. As the temperature climbs back up into the 80s, the Tribe’s win total climbs into the 90s. They’re heading west with an off day on Monday, though, so it’s a good time to reflect on the bizarre summer we just witnessed… First up, Kyrie Irving’s strange appearance on ESPN’s First take. Irving mused on his his time in Cleveland his reasons for leaving, but mostly spent his time talking a lot without saying anything.

#CavsRank Moments: 21-19 (Growing Pains)

2016-09-06

As we’ve seen thus far, not all the #CavsMoments we’re counting down are necessarily fond ones… or at least they didn’t start out that way at the time. In this next installment of Moments, we cover a few of the initially more painful ones, including two trades — one that greatly altered the fundamental construction of this team, and another that engendered a strong and immediately divisive emotional reaction amongst Cavs…

The Point Four-ward: Moz-el Tov

2016-07-13

Four points I’m thinking about the Cleveland Cavaliers… 1.) The fact that Timofey Mozgov signed a free agent deal to play elsewhere didn’t come as a surprise to anyone who followed the Cavs last season. Becoming a favorite of fans and daytime bartenders alike after coming over in a January 2015 trade with the Denver Nuggets, Mozgov suffered noticeable dips in both performance and confidence during the 2015-16 campaign. By…

Five Up, Five Down

2016-04-22

The Cleveland Cavaliers are two games into their playoff run, and so far there’s a lot to be happy about. After all, when a team is up 2-0 in their playoff series, everything is perfect, right? Well, yes and no. Obviously, many important things must be going well for the Cavs to be up 2-0, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for improvement in several critical areas. Without further ado, here’s…

Podcast Episode 93: Back2Backs to KLove’s back, but is Mozzy back?

Featured Video Play Icon
2016-03-28

This podcast “must have back. “ Here’s your iTunes link. Ben I and talked about the large variance between Kevin Love’s (and to a lesser extent, Kyrie Irving’s) good games and poor games, and tried to sort through whether it was mostly mental, physical (back still an issue?), or some combination.  Whatever the case, the numbers show that the Cavs as a team are really bad on the second night of back…

Recap: Cavs 124, Nuggets 91 (Or, How Can I Be of Assistance?)

2016-03-22

The Cavaliers took the court with the opportunity to clinch their 5th division title and 50th win of the season. Though the Wine and Gold has struggled in recent weeks, it is no small thing to win a division title. Playoff seeding questions aside, hanging a banner in the Q is always a good thing. With Kevin Love out due to illness, Coach Lue turned to Channing Frye to start…

Recap: Cavs 108, Wiz 83 (or, Powering Forward)

On a night when the Cavs honored one of their most electric past iterations, the 1975-76 “Miracle of Richfield” team, they may have just tapped into an important key to fueling their future. In his ongoing attempts to rev up the team’s pace of play, while decreasing the size of the lineup to compete in today’s NBA, Coach Tyronn Lue took advantage of a scheduled rest day for his regular…

Thoughts on Timo

Things are looking pretty good for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Everyone is healthy, and the team is 8-2 since the return of Kyrie Irving. The offense is clicking, and the Cavaliers have been blowing the opposition out with increasing frequency. The defense has improved tremendously since the return of Iman Shumpert (and the removal of Mo Williams from the rotation), and David Blatt’s rotation seems to be stabilizing. Everything is coming…

Podcast Episode 80: Mopey Mo, LeBron Finds his Shot, and the Cavs’ Threats

Happy 2016, everyone. Tom, Evilgenius, and I are back in the podcast booth this week going over (almost) all of this week’s Cavs news. We celebrate the Cavs’ 3-0 bounceback week with a bevy of questions. Is LeBron’s shot really back? Why is Mo Williams is so mopey, and what should the team do about it? Who are the Cavs’ top threats in the East? The West? Are the Cavs’…

Podcast Episode 79: Curing the Holiday Blues

Cavs got you down? After a tough loss in Oakland and a terrible performance in Portland, they sure had us down; so Tom, EvilGenius and I decided to commiserate via podcast. So many questions were asked and answered. Are the Cavs holiday blues temporary or more systemic? Why are the paths of prospective free agents Timofey Mozgov and Matthew Dellavedova so divergent right now? What would Pop do (with this Cavs team)? Is the…

Putting the Puzzle Together

Everyone has their own holiday traditions, and the one that my family has engaged in (for as long as I can remember anyway), is putting together a traditional holiday season jigsaw puzzle. My parents did it when I was a kid, and I couldn’t let my own kids go unscathed once they got old enough to handle the tiny cardboard pieces without swallowing them. The bigger, more intricate and more…
