I’m cool with this. Allows the Cavs to look at another D-Leaguer.
I’m going to miss Hollins. He played hard all the time.
I am getting drunk tonight im so happy.
The over/under on the amount of illegal ball screens just dropped from 1.000 per game to a more manageable number of 2.
On the plus side, turnovers per game should now plummet.
YESSSS! more Center action for TT! Although, we will always have that miami game Hollins, where you inexplicably beasted. You were our biggest reason for celebration in a pretty pathetic 2010-2011 season, and for that, I’ll always look at you as one of my favorite complete scrubs.
Matt P, Ryan Hollins just tried to block your comment… and whiffed. He is now out of position to grab your rebound comment if you have one.
Speaking of centers, did anyone see Chad Ford’s mock draft? He has us taking Cody Zeller @ 8, Jeff Taylor @ 26. A month ago, I would have been upset at the Zeller pick. But after watching him against VCU, I wouldn’t mind it too much. He wasn’t incredible, but solid. He looked comfortable having the ball and was aggresive when trying to score. I’d still prefer Barnes of Beal though.
oops….Barnes or Beal
Woohoo! No more Hollins!
As for the draft, unless the ping pong ball gods smile upon us once again, I don’t think we will be high enough to land Barnes. I don’t want a big with our first pick (i.e. Ford has us taking Zeller). I think we definitely need a 2 or 3 with our lottery pick. http://nbadraft.net/2012mock_draft I like this website for draft projections. They don’t have Zeller going until 16. He might be a big reach with our lottery choice.
I would be happy with Beal or Lamb with first selection. I would like us to try to get Fab Melo or Festus Ezeli with one of later picks.
Any interest in Draymond Green for one of later picks?
Henson, Henson, Henson. Read the BEST draft website, draftexpress for all the reasons why we shouldn’t pick him if he’s available to us at 7 or 8. Again, best player NOT need!
Should have read “why we SHOULD” pick him. Damn tiny keyboard…
Completely disagree Kj. Usually I would say talent first, but we now have 376 power forwards. If there is any position I hope we don’t draft this year it is PF. If we can get either wing and a legitimate center I will be ecstatic. Any chance of us trading up maybe two for one on picks?
Ross, I was just about to say I would love to get Draymond with the second pick. That would be awesome. I think Kyrie plays off the ball actually fairly well for a point, and having a point forward to utilize that as well as set up Thompson and Andy could be pretty valueable. As for the first pick, I’d rather have Tyler than Cody zeller, maybe thats just me. But yes, I would prefer Lamb or Barnes if they are there.
I actually kind of hope we can’t draft them and draft Jeremy Lamb instead though. Guy is a baller and I think Scott, Kyrie and Andy could straighten him out some. I think he has a good chance at being the second best player in this draft after Brow Down.
I’m with Ryan Young. I don’t think there is any reason whatsoever to draft Henson. He projects as a thinner, less built Tristan Thompson, free throw shooting deficiencies included. We don’t need any PFs. We have Varejao and Thompson who are both natural 4s.
I actually like Cody Zeller better than Tyler, but I don’t know if he is planning on coming out after his freshman season at IU or not. I could see him sticking around for a few years, especially with IU’s monster recruiting class coming in next year.
ya, if we draft henson it pretty much is bubye to Thompson. They both can only play PF and maybe out of place Center, neither has range, and they both are shot blockers that can’t hit a free throw. I just can’t see them coexisting on the court together. Perhaps Henson is superior to Thompson, that I won’t argue, but at the same time the Cavs don’t need to be replacing one of the better talents they have right now if there is a player similarly talented to Henson we can take instead.

I hate watching Hollins play so much…and yet i am inexplicably sad that he is gone.

@Ross
I wouldn’t mind Beal or Lamb first, then Melo or Ezeli with the second 1st round pick. But both Melo and Ezeli are really raw offensively. TT will be the starting PF next season, and he’s raw on offense. Having a polished C would serve the Cavs well, IMO. Remember, everyone believed they should have taken Valanciunas last draft.
I think coach Scott wanted this for a LONNNNNNGGGG time
Egads! We have 2 PF/C in Andy and TT. Samardo is not part of the plan. And furthermore, please look at the physical similarities between Henson & Davis and then explain to me why exactly we wouldn’t want at worse the pooran’s version of Davis? Makes no damn sense to me at all. Henso can play the pivot just as much as Davis can! They’re the same height & weight and both are great shot blockers with incredible wingspans and athleticism. Seriously, people. There’s a reason draftexpress is so high on him.
Should have read “poor man’s Davis.” Man, I suck at typing…
YES!
And I know I would love to get Beal/Lamb/Rivers plus a Zeller brother. I say trade next year’s first rounder and Lakers’ pick and/or Hornets’ second rounder to trade up and get one.
I’m all for Brad Beal (assuming we aren’t going to be picking high enough to grab Barnes), but if we end up going with a big for our first pick, I would LOVE to snag Austin Rivers if he comes out. I know he isn’t perfect at this point and has a few things to work on, but does anyone really doubt that he’ll become an above-average SG in the league? I also like the kid from Washington (Ross) if he’s there in the 20′s….
I just hope Miami obtains the services of Hollins. That would be the icing on the cake.
Now that Hollins is gone, our frontcourt remains incredibly thin. As far as potential centers go, I would be happy with Cody Zeller if he decides to come out this year. While he’s not the typical shot-altering center that is often sought after in the NBA (a la Chandler, McGee, Howard) he would be the best complement we could get to pair with TT. Cody Zeller has an advanced offensive game for someone his age and his high FT% bodes well for his developing jump shot.
I don’t know about Henson. He’s gained a lot of weight but is still a stick. He would only be the choice if the front office has given up on TT. Since their styles are so similar, they wouldn’t be able to share the floor.
I also have serious doubts about Melo. Beware anyone flunking out of college. If this guy is dumber than a box of rocks, would he be able to pick up the Princeton offense? Would he be motivated to fulfill his potential? Obviously he wasn’t motivated to go to class.
I’m a big Beal fan and would love him as the SG. But if we were bad enough to have the option of taking MKG/Barnes, I would probably choose either of them over Beal.
Melo is my favorite out of the big men that could fall to the Cavs late first round pick. I’m not sure what his problem was with classes at Syracuse but he is a natural shot blocker and rebounder that has the one trait that can’t be taught, real size.
You can’t teach height, and Ryan Hollins was way better at UCLA. On the plus side, he does have some college education. (C’mon Cleveland fans, couldn’t you at least lobby for TT to get a degree over the next eight years at Case, or Baldwin Wallace or something? Ohio is so dominant in the higher ed arena that the edge should spill over onto the court. It’s one reason why Bruin BD also liked it in the City on the Lake).
I will always remember going to the Q last year to see the Mavs take apart the Mo Williams non-led Cavaliers. In addition to chanting “MVP” while Jamieson sank a few free throws to keep things from becoming completely embarassing, I shall always remember Ryan Hollins’ handful of absolutely ghastly flops against a team on its way to a world championship. Thanks, Ryan Hollins.
Oh, right, what’s the long term plan at the 5 spot? Bring back Z?
Ok, it’s clearany of u here have not actually watched Hemson play because he is nearly nothing like TT in his game. Again he is essentially a poor man’s A. Davis. I for one, would take that over some under-sized SG any day of the week…
KJ, its clear TT is pretty damn similar to A.Davis except he (like henson) isn’t AS good at blocking shots, though it is a strength, and he (like henson) can’t hit a free throw. Both pretty damn significant drawbacks that limit them as players, especially when considering playing them together.
And how are Jeremy Lamb (the guy I want) and Harrison undersized exactly? Beal is maybe a smidge below average for an nba shooting gaurd, but 6’4 ain’t exactly undersized either. Dwyane Wade seems to manage.

And beal is the only undersized sg being mentioned, and at 6’3 hes an inch shorter than wade.
