Live Thread: Rockets at Cavs
2018-11-24The Cleveland Cavaliers are fresh off a big win against the Philadelphia 76ers for only their third victory of the season. The Cavs will now go up against another tough match-up in the Houston Rockets and will be doing so on the second night of a back to back. The last time Cleveland played on the second night of a back to back, things got, well, let’s just say ugly. The Cavaliers were pummeled by a less than enthusiastic Wizards team and will be looking to avoid a similar fate against the Rockets.
Houston has had a bit of a rough season themselves with James Harden missing the first portion of the year. However, before losing to the Pistons just last night, they were on a small hot streak with five straight wins. Hopefully their tired legs will be more evident than Cleveland’s own. They will need all the help they can get going against one of the tough Western Conference teams. It would be nice to log two wins in a row but they will have to avoid sloppy turnovers to have a chance at all in this one. That hasn’t been an easy task for Cleveland this season and gets worse when tired. Here’s to hoping for another exciting game. As always, Go Cavs!
9. Hill. Rotation/Rotation. Has the skills to be a B/B+ player, but cannot take the heavy minutes anymore. But 12.6/1.9/3.0 on 55.6% FG, 48% 3PT, and 87.5% FT is still a contributing player, even if not the defender he once was. If a PO team comes calling with a good deal, make the trade. If not, let him be the backup/mentor & reluctantly part ways in the summer. Or we could keep & eat the last contract year. 10. Korver. Niche/niche. Does not have the wheels to play 20-25 mins a night anymore. But shooting, gravity, and smarts make him… Read more »
Recap up.
We have 6 guys I really like a lot for this team going forward (Love, Sexton, Cedi, TT, Nance, & Nwaba). Then it gets trickier. 7. Hood. Rotation/B/B+. Size & that stroke are tantalizing. But if he is not scoring, what does he give you? The mentality & tendency to fade make me think he never reaches that potential. When he is bad he really hurts you. But he HAS shown more consistency (48% 3PT) and a bit better all-around game. Keep for now. Start for now. Tough decision looming. 8. Clarkson. Rotation/B/B+. Like Hood, he does not give you… Read more »
Let me revise my previous regarding the levels of a roster. 1st two OK (studs & B/B+). Top two are your heavy minutes guys. Would break rotational/niche into two categories. Rotational are the 16-24 min guys, niche more like 10-12. Then you have the developmental/past it tier. 5. Nance. Rotational/B/B+. Nance is a too small C or PF who cannot shoot. He also has excellent BBIQ, can pass well, and is a good (not great) defender. If the shot comes along, he goes to B/B+. $11 mil seems an overpay, but not by a ton. Keeper. 6. Nwaba. Rotational/stud. Nwaba… Read more »
Fun week. I see hope. For me, a contending team breaks down like this: 1. 2-3 Studs (all-star or better) 2. 3-5 B/B+ guys. Heavy minutes. Help in a variety of ways. 3. 3-5 rotational/limited guys. Big minutes might hurt you. But OK in limited minutes or even more minutes if matchup/lineup hides their flaws. For us. Player. Current level/Ceiling. 1. Love. Low end stud/same. Love as your #2 can get you to the Finals, but #1 has to be otherwordly (LeBron). Great as a #3. Keeper/starter for us. 2. Sexton. Rotational/stud. Thought B/B+ was his ceiling, but am revising… Read more »
Here we go, wins (pick prot & team)
3 – ATL
4 – PHX, Cavs (1-10, ATL)
5 – CHI
6 – NY
7 – WASH, MIA
8 – BRK, Utah
9 – MIN, SA, HOU, DAL (1-5, ATL)
10 – NO
—————–
Non-lotto pick swaps:
DEN: (1-12, BRK)
MIL: (1-3, 17-30, PHX)
TOR: (1-20, SA)
Boston could have 4 picks: theirs + better of Sac/Phil (1 prot), Memphis (1-8), Clips (1-14).
My gawd Boston just stockpiled like crazy 😑
Funny thing is, as of now, their own pick is the best of the bunch and none are in the lotto!
I could see us catching the Knicks and injury riddled Bulls pretty soon. Gonna be harder to catch that next tier (Mia, Brk, Wash).
If Love comes back strong & we hold onto Hill/Korver for a while, perhaps. Especially if the Wiz blow it up.
Just watching the replay – that stretch of 5 minutes of play late in the 3rd where CLE stretch their leads into the teens is just so enjoyable. SCENE: Rockets, now realising how fast Sexton is, send 3 guys to close out on Sexton as he fast breaks. He approaches the hoop with Harden on him, so he backs off. Looks around. Harden backs off. So Young Bull calmly slots the mid-range two. At this point, the Rockets commentators (I am forced to watch the away feed) stop talking about how the Cavs love of the long 2 will kill… Read more »
