Seven teams remain without a win in this fledgling NBA season, and with both the Hawks and Cavs at 0-2, something’s got to give. Cleveland makes its home debut after giving up big second quarter runs to the Raptors and T-Wolves. The Hawks come in having given up 257 points to the Knicks and Grizzlies, with an average loss margin of 16.5.
Leading the Hawks have been Taurean Waller-Prince who has 25-5-5 and Trae Young who has led the team in minutes and posted 17-4-7 averages, while shooting a whopping seven treys per game. Sitting on his right hand and making him a driver is a key to stopping Trae who’s shooting 36% from three, but just 39% from two. The other key to beating the Hawks? Taking advantage of their turnovers. Atlanta’s coughed the ball up a whopping 43 times in two games.
Many think Atlanta’s the worst team in the league, but they have some dangerous players with Young, Prince, Cavalier irritant, Kent Bazemore, and Jeremy Lin.
In the injury department, it’s good news and bad news. The good news: Larry Nance is available to play after spraining his ankle late in preseason. The bad news: Sam Dekker is available to play after a head injury, Friday. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m happy that Dekker isn’t hurt seriously, but the less he plays the better for Cleveland.
For Atlanta, Peachtree Hoops reports that that John Collins, Dewaye Dedmon, Justin Anderson and Daniel Hamilton are out. Omari Spellman (ankle) was upgraded to questionable. Trae Young, Vince Carter, Tyler Dorsey and Alex Poythress are probable.
Kevin Love should have a good matchups tonight with Atlanta’s main line big men out, and we should see a good rookie duel between Young and Sexton. Keeping my fingers crossed that the Cavs come out hungry for their first win.
and to top it off.. shump puts up 26 in the SAC takedown of OKC. sad
Kings look like they may be exciting, if not that good, this year. Good for Shump, but that’s fool’s gold. Thunder have Celtics next, not a great place when you’re 0-3.
Well, instead of watching the Cavs, I had watch my Bengals get destroyed by Mahomes. Looks like Atlanta was smart to pick up Trae Young, Kevin Huerter and Omari Spellman in this year’s draft…. all of them did some good things tonight. Trae Young proving doubters wrong… and summer league showed Spellman was a sneaky good pick… especially if he’s going to hit 3s like that. At least we’ll get to keep the pick!
Again, on my to do list for the year, the top 4 are looking good: 1) Keep the pick; 2) Get rid of Lue (0-3); 3) Get rid of Mike L (the D is terrible); 4) Develop the young guys, paeticularly Sexton & Cedi.
Trade afoot with Kyle & JR sitting?
Honestly…probably no trade afoot yet. No reason for other teams to want them yet. But I definitely anticipate value for Kyle…and I anticipate us shopping JR and TT. Hopefully we can at least get rid of TT. I actually dont mind if we keep JR Smith.
But what I really hope is we have a buyer for George Hill. Cuz he isnt playing well anyway…and we could use some young shooters and also could use a slew of coaching changes. The two arent related but good God isnt it obvious Koby???

Tremendous range shown by Trae Young, and you can’t complain about all the assists. When you can hit from 30+ feet you can make things happen. Despite the one game where they faced off in college he’s way ahead of Sexton. It’s early, but I thought they might actually do better early in the year as other teams warmed up. I guess not. My read is that they will go 50-50 against the bad teams and generally get pasted by the good ones. That translates to ~30 wins. They have a bunch of not very coachable players. Cavs have underachieved in the regular season and made thingsfar far more difficult for themselves than they need be in the playoffs for quite some time. If game plans and rotations weren’t so nonsensical they could have gotten so much more rest and won more last year. In they playoffs, we got scooled tactically by teams with less talent for 2/3 eastern series.

Yeah I don’t know if it’s too early or not to start making judgements. It seems like they just stopped playing after the first quarter. That being said I want Longabardi on the first flight out of here.
At this point, I think Longabardi, like Marvin Lewis with the Bengals, is a lifer. Impossible to imagine him ever being anywhere else.
You say lack of talent. Yet the nets who had nobody last year nearly lost us our pick. We have far more talent than they did last year.

Hill is a decent defender. Osman has been a decent defender on ball. Nance was their best defender last year. Nwaba is an athletic body who by all accounts is a decent defender, who basically played nil the first two games. Love can be solid if put in a scheme that doesn’t make him do things that he can’t do. They do dumb things though.
