Who Will The Cavs Take At Number Four?
2011-05-23What it will come down to for Chris Grant and the Cavalier coaching and scouting staffs will be the best fit long-term. Kanter is undeniably more ready to step in now and flash his offensive skills, and you will have to wait a little longer to see Valanciunas’s full impact. If defense, rebounding, and pick and roll offense are a greater need, Valanciunas is your man. If you’re looking for more of an offensive option and a tough, physical finisher in the post, then Kanter should be the selection. I feel that the Cavaliers’ decision may in part be made by Minnesota (or a trade partner) and Utah ahead of them, and only one of these two will be there at number four. Right now, I’m leaning a little bit toward Valanciunas, but I would not be disappointed at all with Kanter.
I will abstain since I know very little about either prospect. Discuss, People Who Know Things.
Why aren’t we just taking the most talented guys? Why are we even bother talking about Hickson as a starting PF? That’s a complete reach. He is no better than big baby.
“williams is a no brainer at 1”
No. No, he’s not.
As for Valencius I don’t want a guy who’s a question mark on coming here (though with the lockout, they all are).
Maybe trade down to where Sacramento is and grab Kawahi Leonard. The guy is a freakish athlete, and has the tools to be a much more athletic Ron Artest on the defensive end. I know the need for a guy, but a lot of these guys scare me.
how bout neither williams is a no brainer at 1 and fourth id probably trade out of this draft is very very weak but if somehow williams or irving is there at 4 well one of them then
I was eating dinner out last night in downtown Chicago and sat at a table next to Kanter and his handlers. He’s a big dude. And he can EAT. Quesadilla appetizer, steak sandwich and a pieces of fried chicken with a pile of fries.
I don’t say this to be critical or anything. I was impressed.
Valanciunas is comparable to Joakim Noah/Anderson Varejao while Kanter is closer to an Al Horford type of player.
I think Kanter is a better complement to JJ Hickson and the Cavs because he can help spread the floor offensively and open up the paint for Irving and Hickson. Valanciunas could be a good PF/C combo but we already have Andy to fill that role.
