The Cavs took on San Antonio approximately one month ago and got Spurred pretty hard. I know, I know… the Sunday afternoon puns. Anyway, the Cavs barely had an answer for LaMarcus Aldridge, Kyle Anderson, Davis Bertans, Dejounte Murray as they collected 13 offensive rebounds and profited from the Cavaliers’ 19 turnovers. As we know, though, this isn’t the same Cavs team.

Key to this game will be controlling the Spurs on the boards, defending them inside, and stopping their key shooters (Bertans and Green). The Spurs are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and it’s reported that Kawhi Leonard may be out for the season as his strange injury lingers. They’ll also be without Manu Ginobili who’s out with a bruised sternum.

For my money, the Cavs will be fine if they limit the turnovers, defend, and don’t do dumb things on offense. I’d agree with Mike Schreiner’s assessment that Jordan Clarkson was a little shot happy and that the Cavs’ needed to work the offense a little more against the Grizzlies, especially when it came to getting Kyle Korver shots. Clarkson can get any shot he wants, but he tends to go 90 miles per hour and not use his speed as a change of pace in the half court. He also can be a black hole at times, and gets tunnel vision when there are guys open. You have to play on the edge to be a good offensive player, but if Clarkson can take 5 MPH off his fastball a-lá Sandy Koufax and play with just a little more control, he could be great offensive player, instead of just good.

Let’s hope this Cavs team has it in them to be great rather than good for this game and the rest of this season. Go Cavs.
