The heck with it, let’s talk about the NCAA tournament.
Why was I not informed that Derrick Williams shot freaking 60%/58%/74% this season? Does anyone realize how completely insane that is? And he’s athletic? And in the 99th percentile in isolation situations? And reportedly cares about defense? What possible reason on Earth did people have for talking about Perry Jones more than this guy? Yes, it is embarrassing that I know nothing about college basketball. Still, holy lord. I’m totally fine with plugging that dude in at the four next season, even if he projects as something of a tweener.
Irving should still definitely be the first overall pick, though. He has all the production and the physical tools, and adding a real point guard makes everything better in a hurry. 28 points on 15 shots is pretty impressive, especially considering he missed nearly the entire regular season.
Of course, I decided to watch the Jimmer game in its entirety and toggle to Kemba and get dinner during Arizona/Duke. Naturally, Jimmer couldn’t buy a shot. I am a 100% reliable college basketball jinx. I actually wasn’t too discouraged by what I saw. Jimmer is not going to be firing 34-footers off the dribble with 16 seconds left on the shot clock in the NBA. We have known this for many moons. But he can knock down open threes, he can handle the ball, he can pass a bit, and he’s surprisingly strong around the basket. In the right system, he’ll be just fine. And I have to think his defense will get better when he actually has to play it.
Jeremy Lamb had the quietest insane scoring performance in the history of man. 24 points on 26 true attempts? Are you kidding me? Still, Kemba Kemba Kemba.

In NBA news, ANTHONY RANDOLPH. That is all.
We are not guaranteed the first pick or the eighth. I think it’s actually a 25% chance at the number one. The good news is that now it’s more than a one player draft – we’d be happy to get Irving first, or Williams second, as well as Kemba or Barnes later.
Have to say Williams might be #1. This kid is Carmello Anthony all over again, with possibly better shot selection. Kyrie Irving’s nice but he’s 6’2″, and he seems more of a shoot first PG. Williams seems to have elite scoring ability. This currently seems to be a more specialized NBA skill than being a good pick and roll point guard. Kyrie probably gets pushed ahead because he’s got a clear NBA position more than Williams. But I can see Williams being absolutely deadly as a Carmello Anthony type 3/4.

I wouldn’t be excited with Barnes at #3. Wiliams, Irving, or bust. I hope Williams’ next game in the tournament is bad and Barnes’ is great so that if the Cavs draft #3, the #2 team may talk themselves into Barnes and leave Williams for the Cavs (and hopefully the Cavs can’t talk themselves into Barnes if they’re #2).
Can Kemba Walker really be #5? Isn’t he 5’11”?
Forget Valanciunas, Enes Kanter is the guy you should be looking at (that you’ve never heard of).

@Leo that’s a good shout. To be fair, if JJ and Andy will have trouble playing together, I am all in favor of trading JJ for another shot at Williams, barnes or irving. Not sold on jones yet.
that would be great if we got #1 and #2…but i think it will be spaced out like a #1 or #5 or #6….so get a pg and either a wing or big man….im kinda thinking trading JJ for another draft pick if thats possible….get as many picks as possible and just stack up.
And Williams is a sophomore – upside!
i completely agree with derrick williams at #2. i have always wondered how an extremely athletic, young big guy who can shoot threes and score easily is only the fifth best prospect. throughout the game i found myself internally debating taking irving or williams…im just going to hope for #1 and #2 overall
