2011-03-01Not a lot of stuff coming across the wire today, guys.
Antawn Jamison will be out for 5-7 weeks due to his broken finger, which was successfully operated upon yesterday. Byron Scott has not commented yet on who is going to replace Jamison in the starting lineup, but we’ll find out tomorrow night when the Cavs host the Spurs.
Jason Lloyd has some info about tactics the Cavs have employed in order to stay positive in the midst of an abysmal season.
This seems like idle chatter, but there has been a bit of buzz about new Cavalier Luke Harangody’s relentless motor. Of course, words like “relentless” and “hard-working” tend to function as code for “guy with a very limited skill set who tries hard.” At the very least, the Cavs just acquired a guy who will bust his butt in practice.
On The Twitters
“#Cavs center Semih Erden is several games away from playing. He’s out against San Antonio. He’s not in game shape.” [Bob Finnan]
“JJ Hickson says he likes what he sees from Baron Davis in #Cavs practice so far. “Lob city,” is what he called Baron’s offense. He likes it.” [Mary Schmitt Boyer]
“BScott will gradually transition JJ back to 4.” [Jason Lloyd]
Jamison is what allowed Hickson to thrive. That’s why I’m worried. I’m worried I’ll see Hickson go back to his old self. that should have everyone worried. Forget what Jamison directly did for this team that probably hurt this team more than helped, his indirect contribution, which was spreading the floor and forcing the opposing teams C to guard Hickson helped Hickson’s game more than anything.
Perfectly said Leo.
I dont know why we are fretting about this team…its like we’re worried how bad this team will be even though its been terrible all year…the rest of the season will be playing the young guys, see who fits the system and can contribute and prepare for next year and who to draft….thats pretty much it….i could care less if jamison is gone..all he did is score a bunch of points and shoot a ton which never really helped us at all….get those young guns in there and see what we got…we only have 11 wins i mean its not… Read more »
hehe, anyone read the Daily Dime today and see what ESPN said about Mike Bibby’s defense, how it looks like he is defending while waist deep in a pool? Hilarious.
I really think you guys are underrating how bad a defense can be. Yea, those two might play harder, but being small and unathletic normally doesn’t pan out very well as far as post defense is concerned. Smauels and Harongody both fit that bill. Just watch Blair or Kevin Love. Two guys who play hard as hell, but get totally torched on defense because of their combination of size and non-athletic ability. I’ll say this, the defense certainly won’t be better.
How in the world does anyone think our defense will get WORSE with Jamison out? He played ZERO defense. People, Samuels and Harangody HAVE to be at least even to Twan and Hollins!
Wow – I remember when Bill Simmons referred to Al Thorton as a poor man’s LeBron.
Sorry, I hate posting from my phone…
So the Wizards waived Al Thorton, is that be someone the Cavs should look into?
Lob city sounds like an offense that we would run if Jamario Moon came back and coached.
I am absolutely positive that our defense will improve with Jamison out. Yes, Hollins is terrible, but Samardo is just bad instead of historically awful like Jamison. Hick and Samardo actually did a decent job last game considering. We did hold the Sixers to 20 4th quarter points which, by our standards, is great. With the Spurs in town, we are actually in a fine situation to start Samardo and Hick as Blair is undersized and Duncan is going to kill whomever we have at 5 anyway. (yes, Duncan is now their center, despite what he may claim.) Blair is… Read more »
It’s scary to think how much worse we’ll be without Jamison. Also considering Jamison’s ability to spread the floor, I think things will be quite a bit more difficult for Sessions to penetrate with the clogged up paint of Hickson/Harangardy/Samuels/Hollins.
Even then, that is goin to be a really terrible defensive FC. It has been all season, though, so no big difference on that end.
Word is he is going to start Samuels. That still means Hickson is going to have to move to PF or else have two guys in the paint the majority of the time. Not sure that’s going to work out for either guy if that is the case. Also, pretty sure opposing teams will be ok with putting their C on Samuels instead of on Hickson.
If you thought the defense was bad with Jamison and Hickson, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Sweet baby Jesus is Hollins terrible. I fully expect B. Scott to try anything plausible to avoid playing him big minutes. This includes, but is not limited to, a Smuels/Harangody – Hickson frontcourt. I expect to see Joey Graham get some burn at the four, by default.
I need to know…is Luke grindin?
Gradually? It’s going to have be right effin now. There is no option but to play Hollins with Jamison and Erden out, which means HIckson is basically back at the 4. Even if they tried to stay small and start Samuels, opposing teams wouldn’t have to play their 4 on Samuels. they could easily get away with playing their C on Samuels and guard HIckson with their PF, which is all that matters. I see no options but for Hickson to have to go back to playing the 4.
