Upgraded Answering Machine

Sorry this wasn’t up sooner, but I’m technically on vacation this week. That was not the case for Coach Ty Lue, his agent and the Cavs, as the man known as “The Answering Machine” reached an agreement on a five-year, roughly $35M extension Monday, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin (as first reported by The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski).

As reported, the first four years are fully guaranteed, while the fifth year is a team option.

The “Luesurper” (who was already the NBA’s highest paid assistant coach), was promoted to replace former Coach David Blatt back in January when GM David Griffin decided the team needed further galvanization.

Despite some early growing pains, Lue was able to lead the Cavs to a 27-14 mark in the second half, and ultimately through a historic playoff run to capture to the team’s first ever NBA championship. Along the way, he earned the support and respect of LeBron James and the rest of his players, while exuding an almost constant state of calm both on the sidelines and in his post-game interviews.

Now that the Cavs have locked up their Championship Head Coach for the foreseeable future, they can turn their full focus on re-signing Free Agents LeBron James and JR Smith.
