CAVS Call: The Methodical March to the Finals and the story of Mo Speights’ Fastball

Earlier this year I became friends with Martin, another NBA fan living in Dayton that had heard me on Dayton Sports Scene with Mark Neal. He was aggressively attacking the sports podcast arena and asked if I’d be a guest on his show: AM Sports w/Alex and Martin. I obliged and was blown away by the depth of his sports history memory. Honest to God talking to Martin was like watching that show “Stump the Schwab” that aired on ESPN years back. So I periodically get the opportunity to talk NBA with him and his co-host Alex.

In this episode of the AM Sports Guys, we talked about the impact of Kevin Love and Channing Frye, Kyrie Irving‘s improved decision making, LeBron James‘ approach in these playoffs, rest vs rust, do the Cavs really have a “sense of urgency”?, and we went around the NBA playoffs a bit. The highlight (for me) was learning that Alex not only went to high school with Marreese Speights (he of Herculoid lore!) but that Mo was the ace pitcher on the baseball team and that Alex was the catcher!  As someone that both pitched and caught at the high school level, I really appreciated the imagery that Alex painted of standing next to a towering Mo Speights on the mound.

These guys are extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and just great dudes.  I highly recommend their podcasts.
