Fantasy Notebook: Playoff Time!

It’s been a long, punishing regular season here at Cavs: The Fantasy League.

No one’s body is feeling right. Everyone could use some rest, some time off… a two-week lay-off and a trip to Miami, say… but that ain’t gonna happen. Not here, anyway. CtFL is about fictitious balling and fictitious balling is what this collection of true competitors will continue to do.

It’s winning time, folks.

Before we get to a preview of this week’s match-ups — with the 1-4 seeds receiving first round byes — let’s hand out some of the regular season hardware.

The regular season’s best record — and the team that topped the Gilberts Division at 153-91-3 — is owned by none other than Evil Genius!

Congratulations, EG. And, while it would be foolish to start your coronation before you’ve even tasted playoff action, I think we’ve all seen enough to lobby that you drop the Evil for the more fitting suggestion in the song below:

Winner of the Griffins Division (also known as CtFL’s Eastern Conference) is Nate Smith and his Team Stark Delly Treys with a record of 149-92-6.

Nate, congratulations. Your rise has been as meteoric as your Division has been generally flabby. I will honor your achievement the only way I know how: a vaguely basketball-themed Ric Flair promo.

Is is just me or do Flair’s words to Hollywood Hogan sound an awful lot like Smith putting Supra Genius on the alert as the playoffs kick off?

WOOOOO!

The top seeded of those teams seeing action this week have a decided advantage. David Wood’s Team Alex Dirk (#5) taking on CtB’s Editor Emeritus and his cellar-dwelling Team Krolik (#12 of 12), while Ben Werth leads his Team The Deutschiest (#6) into a first round match-up against Tom’s Team PESTAK (#11).

The other two contests, though, have the chance to get a little feisty.

Cols’ Team Buckets Don’t Lie (#7) goes up against Cory Hughy’s Team Iron Sheiks (#10) in the match-up that will finally put to a test all of Cols boasting (well, what I’m assuming he boasted, anyway) that there is absolutely no reason to worry about his team and they will steamroll any competition once the playoffs begin.

Finally, Jonathan Kropko’s Team Throwing The Hammer Down (#8) faces off against Mallory Factor and his Team The Factors of Love (#9).

Starting tonight, CtFL stops being fantasy… and starts getting real.

Good luck, teams — and, as always, go Cavs!
