Live Thread: Cavs vs Clippers

Welcome to February. The groundhog saw his shadow (yawn), the Cavs have just 11 games this month (as opposed to 17 in January) and six of those games are on national TV starting tonight against the Clippers, a team that is described at any given time using phrases like “I just don’t like this team” and “don’t sleep on the Clippers”. No one seems to know how to properly rate the Clippers.
I guess the same can be said of the Cavs. We’ve all doubted their ceiling at various times this season, even as we’ve rejoiced in some overwhelming talent-fests. The 11-game streak, ironically enough, is the most steady basketball we’ve seen from the Cavs all season. Let’s hope that continues tonight.
Do me a favor and give my interview with Mark Neal a listen (during halftime or commercial breaks). It’s probably the 7th or 8th most intelligent NBA analysis you’ll hear today!

Cavs hold yet another team under 100 points and to 41% shooting… Defense is looking really good
holding the clippers varsity squad to under 25 in each of the first 3 quarters is intensely good. we will win just about every game we play in when we hold teams to 22 a quarter

Glad this was on national TV… anybody just looking at the end score would have thought it was close after this turd of a fourth quarter…
I hated that quarter. I couldn’t turn it off for fear they’d start raining threes and we’d be in a dogfight in overtime.
Cavs were shooting over 50% before this fourth quarter… This is just ridiculous
Man this is just U-G-L-Y… They should have just mutually agreed not to play the fourth quarter…

Barkley: I spoke to Coach Blatt about JR. Smith… I look at it like this JR is a follower. You put him on a team with good players and he will play well (paraphrasing) you put him with a bunch of idiots like in NY he’ll play like an idiot.
JR is an underrated defensive player / 5 STEALS—-the more you get to see him play on a daily basis the more you appreciate his all around play—-what a pick up ? considering he was the ” thrown ” in player
Absolutely epic pickup. His defense is all about how long he is.
Chuck is right on about jr smith. Total asset on a team with stronger personalities than him that keep team focused on bball and winning

Don’t want to disrespect but Rivers is a real scrub.
Think about this – two of our biggest blowout games came against the Hawks and Clippers. Two teams that could be in the finals.
The first blowout of the Hawks doesn’t count at this point. It might as well have happened last season.
And the Clippers are NOT going to the finals. They have zero chance of getting through the West.
I disagree… Clippers do have a shot, judging them by just this game is myopic.
Who said I’m judging them by this game? To get out of the West, they’ll most likely have to go through Golden State and Memphis. And if they run into the Spurs in the playoffs, forget about it. The Spurs kill the Clippers.
Point well taken, however, given the context of your statement within a live thread on a game in which the Clippers are playing… it would seem to suggest that you are basing your statement on what you are currently observing given that you provided no additional information regarding your opinion. I totally agree with you, the Spurs and Grizzlies are formidable opponents the Clippers would have to potentially face. They’re capable of it, but it’s going to take an epic run from them to get in at this point. They might not have anything left in the tank after the regular season. It might be good for them to miss the playoffs this season, though.

Was the techs but mainly aggression. Refs haven’t been perfect but clips have been jump shooting not driving

I don’t buy that. The Clippers were flawed, it’s just starting to show now. As much as I like Jordan and Griffin, they have glaring weaknesses in their games that are difficult to conceal. The same goes for Chris Paul. He’s tough as nails, but he can’t break people down and finish anymore.
