Get Excited
2010-10-26Summer is over. On Tuesday, the season starts. On Wednesday, the Cavs play their first game. It’s time to get excited.
It’s time to get excited about a team with a chip on its shoulder. It’s time to get excited about a team ready to play balls-out basketball and give any team a run for their money on any given night. It’s time to get excited about a team that nobody thinks is going to do anything this season.
It’s time to get excited about Mo Williams diving to the corner off a back-screen and draining a three, or pulling up when his man goes under the screen, or driving on an off-balance defense and finding the open cutter for a layup.
It’s time to get excited about one of the most athletic frontcourts in basketball. It’s time to get excited about Andy slipping the pick, darting backdoor, catching the pass and putting in the reverse. It’s time to get excited about watching JJ come one step closer to putting it all together with the passing of each game, or get excited about him catching the pass, gathering with both feet, and rising up above everybody for a slam. Hell, it’s time to get excited about Andy either taking a charge or standing his ground when he goes straight up to contest.
It’s time to get excited about Jamario running the floor, rising up to snatch rebounds, and gliding through the air en route to converting alley-oops. It’s time to get excited about Anthony Parker…well, the time to get excited about Anthony Parker will come.
It’s time to get excited about Ramon Sessions pushing the break, flying into the lane, getting to the line, and finding his teammates with bullets. It’s time to get excited about Jamison cutting to the basket, seeing the defender, and nailing a floater right over him, or stepping back and draining a three. It’s time to get excited about Leon Powe banging down low. It’s time to get excited about Ryan Hollins proving he belongs in this league.
It’s time to get excited about a race for that eighth spot. It’s time to get excited about every game mattering. It’s time to get excited about basketball in front of the Quicken Loans fans. It’s time to get excited about Boobie teeing up an open three.
The summer is over. Basketball season is nearly upon us. The Cavs are coming back to Cleveland. Will you be there to cheer them on?

I actually enjoyed being able to appreciate Paul Pierce’s defense on LBJ during the game. And I actually fist-pumped once when he hit an open 3. Afterwards, I felt as if I’d just found out the woman I’ve been sleeping with was my twin separated at birth.
Yea, Mark, I was wondering the same thing. If Bosh can only score by catching, holding, facing up, and then making a move..this isn’t going to work. He’s gonna need to score by simply getting open and getting offensive rebounds. If he can’t manage that part of the task, then this team will not win a title. Also, they really do have a horrible supporting cast. Find me a roster spot for theo ther two Heat starters on either the Cs or the Lakers. Seriously. It’s also time to get excited about the Mo Williams Show! There’s just something about Paul Pierce that makes me want to slap his parents. How many times have we seen him get “hurt?” Complain about no-calls? Be an overall annoyance on the court? It was tough rooting against Z, but luckily he only played 11 minutes so that made it easier. We saw the the Heat could do against Boston, now let’s hope the Cavs can be much more effective. Questions: why no pick & rolls? I thought that’s why Lebron needed a guy like Bosh? Bosh only played 1-on-1 game, pretty bad strategy with LBJ and non-Flash hanging around. additionally, the Heat better get their sh*t together, b/c if Lebron left Cleveland for another team w/o an actual offense, well, I guess that means he just really wanted to hang on South Beach (not an unreasonable proposition) I had trouble rooting against Heat b/c I dislike Boston so much (this includes seepage of my hatred for the red sox besides just general celtic hate) plus, the Lebron nike commercial… Read more »
Scissor me timbers, Bosh is not going to get it done. I agree with Rich. And I did not feel weird about seeing them on another team. I was surprisingly–and thankfully–numb during the brief moments of that game I watched. All my hatred was absent for the usual suspects: LBJ, Wade, Davis, KG, Rondo, Pierce–OK, I still hate Pierce. (Seriously, why is that guy such a douche?)
I’m really excited, as Krolik incited me to be over and over and over, for tonight’s game.

Just a comment on the first heat game and one big concern I would have if I were a Heat fan. I know it’s early, and I know I can’t make any judgement based on one game. However, since he has never done it before and since he looked awful at it tonight, I think it’s fair to wonder if Chris Bosh can actually be effective as a number 3 option? Anyone else feel really weirded out watching Z and LeBron play in Heat jerseys? I actually found it much more difficult to root against the Heat than I had imagined (I credit Z).

Anyway, the Pacers with Collison and Granger. The Wiz with Wall and Blatche. Even the Knicks. I’m not so sure 40 wins gets the 8th seed this year in the East. I’m thinking it’s closer to 43-44.
Ah, Chip, go easy on Pryor. At least he wasn’t the BIG reason OSU lost to Wisconsin. At least he didn’t give up. And, he has won the Rose Bowl.
the anthony parker part in the post was hilarious…that dude should be buried on the bench but wont be unfortunately. yes the East may be a bit stronger but people are still putting some of the same teams to make the playoffs minus the Cavs and putting someone else in there instead but the other 7 are practically the same. if Cavs win 40 or more games theyll be in the playoffs as 8th seed….be surprised they get to 6th and shocked if they are higher than that….i see the East going Heat Magic Celts Bulls Bucks Hawks Bobcats Cavs…… Read more »
It’s time to get excited about rooting for every team that plays the Heat. It’s time to get excited about watching the Heat attempt to defend Shaquille O’Neal, Dwight Howard, and Andrew Bynum. (Anyone notice Joel Anthony is the starting center for the Heat? Yikes! Shaq is going to have a field day!) The Heat are intriguing, but I definitely won’t enjoy it. I tried to watch a lot of their preseason, and all it did was make me angry.
I have to say I will enjoy watching the heat too. I mean, as a basketball fan that will be pretty fun just to see two of the 4? best players in the league on the same team. Bosh i really don’t care about, because quite frankly Wade and LBJ probably don’t need him.
That said, I’ll be rooting for them to lose every single game in horrendous fashion. I’m almost rooting harder against the Heat than I am rooting for the Cavs. But hey, makes the season interesting when we all know we are probably headed for that lottery.
I’m excited too, I wish we would have started the regular season against the likes of the Nets, Knicks, or Sixers etc, instead of one of the best teams in the east. But looking at our first 10 games of the season we should be over 500. So I’m feeling encouraged about that.
I just hope the Q can sell out the first couple of games. This team CAN make the playoffs if the East remains bad at the bottom. I don’t think it will, but if it does this team has a shot to do more than people are saying right now.

I live in Denver and splurge for floor seats when the Cavs come to town. It was always so disappointing to see the Cavs just go thru the motions the one time I get to see them.
