-Shannon Brown — officially a Laker, still. Good deal for both sides.
-Best of luck to former Cavs assistant GM Lance Blanks, who is now the general manager of the Phoenix Suns.
-Links: Tom Haberstroh says that Carmelo Anthony isn’t a max-value caliber player. Good read. (Insider required.)
-Teams interested in Delonte, according to Cleveland.com: Chicago, Boston, and Dallas. He’d fit in quite well with all of those teams.
-With Tiger struggling at Akron today, it feels relevant to mention that it wasn’t long ago that Tiger and LeBron were officially named the two most NOW athletes on the planet. I guess that was THEN.
John, the photos for the last two posts aren’t showing up on my browser. I use Safari if that means anything.
I hope Delonte goes to a contender (obviously not the Heat). The Cavs pulled him out of obscurity when he was the 3rd guard on the Sonics, and it would be nice to see him stay on national TV.
I’m glad D West had LeBum’s mother. Go D West, I hope you posterize the bum!!
That Haberstoh piece was pretty good. I just have one nitpick with this:
“It seems that, anyway we slice it, Anthony is a gunner at the core. His exceptional skill on offense is his ability to get his shot off, whether it’s attacking the rim or through a patented pull-up jumper on the perimeter. But interestingly enough, Anthony got his shot blocked a whopping 109 times last season, which ranks as the second-highest total in the league, according to Hoopdata.com. Evidently, he doesn’t lack perseverance.”
(1) He just got done mentioning that Carmelo takes more field goal attempts than almost anyone in the league and (2) he spends the rest of the article explaining why adjusting statistics for pace is important for good analysis. You would think he’d look at blocked rate (7.3%), which is still not great but not nearly as bad as second worst in the league.
Still, he’s really right about the bad three-point shooting and the lack of an all-around game of the likes of Wade, Paul, James. And if he’s not a max player, than who besides those other three and Durant is (I don’t think Kobe’s max anymore after this contract)? Factoring in that salaries are artificially limited, I think Carmelo probably is around the max level, its just that those other three should be earning much more than the max.
I hate to say because I would like to have West back, but if I was him I would go to Chicago.
Good solid team. He can play off of Rose and get 12-15 footer-open shots due to Boozer being double teamed.
Does anyone know for certain if the story about D. West and LeBron’s mom are true? I’ve never heard anyone truly confirm or deny, but have heard a lot of talk about it. I figure there must be some truth to it, and since both of them are off the team now, that somebody would say something.
In any event, I think Chicago would be a good fit for West. Can play off of Rose or even take the point on occasion and allow Rose to play off the ball. I wouldn’t mind having him back in Cleveland, but I think there are probably a lot of ‘back stories’ about how they had to deal with his condition and/or mood swings. The Cavs appear to have handled everything with him well and showed support, but it wouldn’t surprise me that if a way they may feel ‘relieved’ that he’s gone.
