Sources: Izzo agrees to be new Cavaliers head coach
2010-06-09The good people over at Waiting For Next Year, whom we love and admire over here at Cavs: The Blog, have broken the story that Tom Izzo has agreed to become the head coach of the Cavaliers. What is not in dispute right now is that Izzo held a meeting with his MSU players and discussed Cleveland’s offer with them.
According to WFNY, he told them he is leaving at the meeting and plans to make an official announcement later in the week. According to other outlets, Izzo told his team that he has not yet made his final decision.
I completely trust that WFNY is reporting what they believe to be true and have 100% confidence in their source. The only reason I’m not 100% positive Izzo will be the next head coach of the Cavs is that college coaches have been known to waffle on big decisions like this. We will, of course, keep you updated as this develops. Kudos to WFNY for getting such a major scoop.
Columbus, OH? Really? You named a MLS team and a CAR show as the reasons why that cow-town is a good place to live? If you aren’t in college, move far from Columbus.
Well, I think it has been proven green is the best color.
To each his own, as to one’s preference of city, since we all consider different things. It’s like trying to definitively pick “what color is the best?”
What about those of us who actually either prefer no city, or if we like a city it’s a midsized city? Frankly, I’ve been all over the United States East of the Missippi, and the city I live closest to is the city I love the most. Columbus, Ohio. Perfect size imo. Growing in business. New stuff all the time. Traffic isn’t god awful. The Shoe is right in the middle of town. Awesome freaking car show every year. Love the Crew. So there!!
@scott
you are really wrong. chicago is a much better place to live than NYC and one of the reasons is the people. i’m from chicago, lived in clevleand too and visited NYC plenty.
chicago is the best city to live in all of the north of the country because it’s on par with NYC in every way with better people and manners.
i will agree that traffic can be terrible in chicago however…
Tom, as a transplanted Clevelander in New York (by way of Chicago, in fact), you are out of your mind if you think Chicago’s “downtown” is a reason it’s preferable to New York. Have you been in Chicago’s downtown at night? You can count the pedestrians on one hand. The city has plenty of charm, but it lies in the neighborhoods outside of downtown, which aren’t terribly convenient to each other. The city has plenty of traffic congestion of its own, and having a car is far more necessary than it is in New York. Sure it’s cleaner, but that… Read more »
not EVERYONE loves NYC.
It’s incredibly congested, the people really do think they are the center of the universe, and it’s DIRTY.
At least Chicago’s Downtown is clean.
I’d much rather live in Chicago than NY. that being said, i’d rather live in Ohio.
Well Greg I acutall wrote a lengthy post that delved into why or why not I feel LeBron is staying in Cleveland before the one I posted before, but it messed up and didn’t get posted. Anyway, Cleveland offers more money + simply has a better roster than the Knicks do. I feel, look at everyones roster, that out of the teams in the running (Knicks, Nets, Heat, and Bulls) that the Knicks have the worst overall situation, at least when it comes to acutally winning on the court. The Nets have more talent than the Knicks AND can say… Read more »
so, at this moment at least, it looks like WFNY was more right than wrong on their report. good for them…
Looks like the boys at WFNY knew what’s up. Now the “big boys” are reporting that he’s likely leaving. Kudos to WFNY for getting this major scoop.
Dude, disable your caps lock for fuck’s sake.
Don’t know how true that leak is
NOW RICH HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR YOU!!! DO YOU THINK LEBRON WILL STAY YES OR NO??? I YES WHY AND IF NO WHY AND WHERE PLEASE BE HONEST
Wow. You see, we like to stereo-type people of New York City maybe a little to much as being egotistical and honestly believing that their city is the center of universe (literally). I mean, that probably isn’t fair. However, then you have people like Greg totally confirm the stereo-type to a tee. You see, we are told in grade school that stereo-typing is bad, but sometimes it ends being the truth. Greg = proof.
YOUTUBE LEBRON TALKS ABOUT 2010
the national media will be pissed if Lebron stays in Cleveland…they want him to leave and go to a major city like NY, Chicago, or LA…in todays age it bugs people that a huge superstar is in a medium size city like Cleveland, they want all superstars in big cities…it helps with exposure and coverage. As for Izzo. I wouldnt mind him, but I gotta think he wouldnt take the job unless Lebron was staying. Even though they say Lebron hasnt said anything, Im sure he has a little bit, not a lot..I just dont see any other real candidates… Read more »
AND SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY LEBRON WILL STAY IN CLEVLAND NOT JUST BECAUSE HE WAS BORN THERE.
IF YOU NOT BORN AND RAISED IN NY YOU WILL NOT NO. WE ARE NOT COCKY BUT CONFIDENT. IT IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD. LEBRON KNOWS IT
LOL I JUST HAVE A REALLY GOOD FEELING ALL MY FRIENDS SAY HE IS GOING TO CHI TOWN OR STAYING IN OHIO BUT I READ THE ARTICLE AND I THINK SHE HAS A POINT
Rich, wow, I was going to comment on that ESPN NY article you posted, but then greg came in and basically said everything I needed to say about New York and Knicks fans. That was satirical, wasn’t it greg?
IM A KNICKS FAN!!!! IF LEBRON STAYS IN CLEVLAND HE IS AN IDIOT. WE CAN SIGN TO MAX PLAYERS AND ONCE YOU SIGN THEM OTHER ROLE PLAYERS WILL WANT TO COME. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DESIRE TO COME TO NEW YORK I LIKE HOW EVERY ONE IS DOWN PLAYING NY BUT WE WILL SEE I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT
Money talks people. Mike D’Antoni left PHX, a really nice situation, for the awesome of losing every year in New York. Why? Well…money. Plain and simple. Was a terrible, awful job in New York and quite frankly is probably going to continue to be terrible but man, money talks.
I think realistically Izzo can coach the LeBron-less cavs to the 7 or 8 seed. That is not very attractive considering the Cavs won’t be able to lure a superstar and they would not be bad enough to draft a superstar anytime soon. I think Izz would need some assurance the Lebron stays to sign. Or course, for $30 Million, I’d move to Siberia for 5 years…
There’s not much to wonder about when you could end up making $30 million in five years with or without LeBron. Money talks!
One wonders why Izzo would come if LeBron isn’t staying…

How can you not love the desperation coming from the Knicks fans. They are becoming more and more desperate than we are by the day.
As of now, you’d have rank the Knicks dead last in the LeBron sweepstakes, and they can’t seem to handle it. So now, according to this writer, if LeBron doesn’t choose the Knicks, then that means he is somehow not very tough and not much of a man? Ahhh, I love it when people become delusional like this and just make up alternate realities. It’s so easy to point and laugh.
Well, if nothing else we know Tom Izzo had a meeting with his players to discuss the job offer. Now, I’m guessing he usually doesn’t do that if he is planning on turning the job down. So, there is reason to at least THINK he might take the job.
I think they were jumping the gun. Just doing what everyone in the media hates about blogs.
I hope they are right. I doubt it, but I hope it’s true. Like Tom said, if they are right, you won’t hear one apology from the big boy media, but if they are wrong they’ll get murdered. SO, because of the all risk and no reward scenario here, I’m rooting for them.
I do too. No one is going to apologise if they turn out to be correct, but you can bet they will get dominated if Izzo waffles.
I believe in WFNY 100% as well, but lets just hope Izzo’s waffling phase doesn’t mirror Billy Donovan’s.
Love the WFNY guys but they are taking some serious heat right now over this “scoop.” Apparently everyone has come out and denounced it, including Windhorst. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
