Mike Brown provided the following statement on Wednesday, May 26th, 2010.

“The past 5 years have been an exceptional experience. I have been very fortunate to lead a group of men who I respect and thoroughly enjoyed coaching on a daily basis. At the same time, I was able to work alongside a terrific coaching staff and with Danny Ferry and a basketball operations team, all of whom I have a profound respect for. We partnered in creating a culture and a standard that I am, and will continue to be, very proud of. None of which would be possible without the dedication and support of Dan Gilbert. I am thankful for the opportunity that he gave to me and my family. We have a deep appreciation for Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland Cavaliers organization, and the people in this community, and have enjoyed making this our home.” [Cavs.com]
“However, that relationship seemed to erode during the playoffs, when James publicly disagreed with his coach’s motivation methods and in-game decisions. Behind the scenes, sources said James and Brown differed on game plan choices against both the Bulls and Celtics. No matter what, Brown will be moving away from Cleveland’s west side, where he became a part of the community and formed many friendships. [Brian Windhorst]
“According to sources, the team did not let go Brown’s assistants. That fact is not a formality, especially with the assistants’ strong reputations and relationships with key players, including LeBron James.” [Brian Windhorst on the Cavs Assistant Coaches]
“It couldn’t have been that great. Stats aside, there was no difference in LeBron James’ approach between Games 5 and 6 of this year’s second-round series with Boston. And you can’t have that, this late in the game. There has to be some desperation, be it implied or legitimate. Someone needs to sweat, before the ball even goes up. You never got that from Brown. And, by extension, you never got that from James and company.” [Kelly Dwyer on Mike Brown]
Gotta Love Ozzie Guillen I guess when you only hit 28 dongs in seven THOUSAND at bats you might have an inferiority complex against superstars
“This apparently was not enough for the Hoopster in Chief. The President has now given an interview to TNT — to run in full on Tuesday — and in it he explained that while he doesn’t want to meddle*, well, the Chicago Bulls have an awfully good young core of players, don’t they? Isn’t it amazing how hard the President is working to not meddle in the affairs of an NBA basketball player?” [Joe Posnanski - SI]

I’m soooo tired of the Mike Brown pity party. Everyone claiming LeBron is the reason he was fired? Really? Nothing to do with Dan Gilbert spending 10+ million over the cap and losing in the 2nd round? I would be willing to wager that is exactly the reason Dan Gilbert pulled the trigger, not because LeBron James may or may not have like Mike Brown anymore.
I love how the man gets credit for all the regular season wins, and then gets excused for the playoff losses. Can’t have it both ways. Either it was all LeBron’s fault in the playoffs, and therefore all LeBron’s doing for the success in the regular season…or it was all on Mike Brown. Can’t continue to post Mike Brown’s win percentage to show his great ability to coach, and then totally not want to talk about his inability to coach in the post-season. With or w/o LeBron James, this man had to go. It simply isn’t right having a head coach who totally has no clue how to coach one side of the ball.
It might be best for the health of the Cavs that they aren’t playing Orlando and Elbows Howard. Two Celtics suffered concussions in game 5, one from a Howard elbow. Howard was also retroactively called for a flagrant in game 4 for elbowing Garnett. And I thought Garnett’s moving screens were dirty.
Love the posnanski piece. Its great to see someone other than me think that the president should probably keep his mouth shut on the matter and focus on other things. JP raises a good point though, it seems like right thing to do would be for him to stay in Cleveland and win everything here. Hopefully he does.
Getting rid of Mike Brown was the right call, the Cavs were never going to take that next step until they did. As for President Obama, shouldn’t he be doing something a bit more important like worrying about this economy instead of trying to get LeBron to play for his Bulls. I also hope LeBron stays in Cleveland and brings them a championship because thats one city that deserves and really needs one for its fans.
I’m so sick of Dwight Howard and his swinging elbows and tiny ears.
anyone else catch this article on the possible obama backlash?

So I’ve been looking at some salary issues and what not, and the Cavs could have a bright future if LeBron could actually stomach basically counting next season as a lost season. If they just sat tight, and made no moves, come 2011, they could make a serious run at ‘Melo. Who knows what Carmelo will be doing next year in Denver, especially if George Karl doesn’t make it back, it could be a total waste of a season and he might want new scenery.
However, this is all just a dream because first LeBron has to return to CLeveland, and second he has to be willing to play on a good, but not great team enxt year with the knowledge they are purposely trying to not be great.
@chamois
Cuyahoga County will always vote democrat. There will be no backlash there.
Is Amare better than Lamar? Neither has a game that travels at all. It stuns me how Amare just vanishes on the baords on the road. Another stellar 4 rebound night, when a couple of more rebounds from him would have equaled a win. Three games in LA, and three times he’s been totally outplayed by Odom.
what’s this about hitting 28 dongs??
