Here’s former CtB editor Colin McGowan on Andrew Bynum, the Cavs’ huge mistake. Included is the Amico tweeted nugget that the Cavs will not be trading Bynum, having found no takers, but will instead be releasing him outright.
Bynum’s suspension was very abrupt, according to Jason Lloyd.
Bynum’s locker hadn’t been cleaned out yet at Quicken Loans Arena. Among the items left behind was a pair of headphones. He is also still part of the pregame introduction video. The team did not hand out his Fathead on Sunday, as was previously scheduled. They also did not hand out game-day programs, called “Tipoff Tonight,” because he was featured on the cover. To make up for the Fathead issue, kids 14 and under received a certificate to redeem for future Fathead packs… Fond memories.

I empathized with Andrew in my Dear Santa… post, calling him one of my favorite persons in the NBA. But the greater the disappointment, the greater the scorn. Now I think the guy will go down with Albert Belle, Delonte West, and Shawn Kemp as one of the great mentally dysfunctional A-holes in Cleveland Sports history. That’s a pretty impressive feat to accomplish in four months, Andrew. So long, and thanks for all the scowls.

I’d still call it a no risk, high reward scenario. What exactly did we lose? Great move by CG no matter how it plays out.

Yeah, I’m with KJ on this one. This ending was always the most likely outcome and Grant knew it. Every GM knew it and that’s why no one was clamoring for Bynum and he was forced to accept a weak offer. I’m cool with the gamble, but just a bit bummed we couldn’t catch a break. Alright guys hear me out (this is all redacted in the event he signs with another team), personally I’m saying thank you to Andrew Bynum. He came he tried (we all saw that at the start of the season) in the end it didn’t work out, maybe he’s in pain, maybe he doesn’t really like basketball and you know what that’s fine. If we think about it pretty much any 7 footer in America (perhaps the world) that is physically capable of playing in the NBA is in the NBA. God, now, after EVERYONE agreed in the summer this was a low-risk move, SUDDENLY everyone is ripping the Cavs up and down for doing it. Eff that and eff the over-reaction that typically lacks perception and proportion. Internet at it’s worst right now…
Yeah. I was a little harsh on Delonte.
I have met Delonte West and he is certainly not an a-hole as you say. He sure is unstable and hopefully he has gotten help but while I talked to him he seemed like a good person. As for this Bynum thing? Boy what a Cleveland story. Hopefully we can salvage him for something.
This just in: Andrew Bynum hired to coach the Cleveland Browns, becoming the first coach in NFL History to not have come from a football background. lol jk
The Bynum experiment didn’t work, but it was still a reasonable risk to take for the money. Please move on, nothing to see here.
Ooo Harsh. Don’t you think this was just business more than anything? He reached his peak and Bynum and the Cavs knew it. He can’t run, jump and he certainly can’t take charges. They were just looking for a reason to cut bait and being in the frustrated state of mind he was in well he made it easy for the Cavs. He wasn’t really bipolar like Delonte West just frustrated and depressed. He didn’t go rogue on a motorcycle packing heat cross country and he didn’t beat up on his girlfriend. Cavs will move on and play more games.… Read more »
