Overview: With LeBron, Mo Williams, Jamison, Gibson, and Shaq all sitting, the Cavs’ B-team fought hard against the Pacers, but came up short in a 113-116 defeat. Sebastian Telfair and J.J. Hickson led the Cavaliers with 21 points apiece.
-THE SEBASTIAN TELFAIR WAR WAGON ROLLETH ONWARDS. 21 points, four assists, 12 points on 10 jumpers, and 3-4 shooting in the paint. Bassy’s looked like he’s playing in the PSAL championships for the last two games. Amazing. And it’s a very small sample size, but his jumper looks a lot better than I’ve ever seen it.
-The Cavs’ leading minute-getters tonight were, the Michael Jordan of Israel, a former Globetrotter, and a street-ball legend turned NBA journeyman.
-After a rough game last night, Hicksomania was in full effect on Friday night. 21 and 10 on 8-11 shooting, three assists, and a 20-foot jumper early in the game.
-The Danny Green war wagon is currently without wheels.
-Jamario might be edging out Jawad for playing time now that he’s getting a chance to play. He was cutting for dunks all game, and he was even knocking down those ugly, ugly long jumpers he favors. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get minutes in the playoffs.
-Alright, I’m going to keep this one short because it’s Friday night and this game didn’t count. Always a bummer to see a losing streak, but I think the Cavs will be able to pick up right where they left off when they start playing their starters again. Until later, campers.
-Danny Granger hasn’t done much against the Cavs this season, but he looked great tonight. 36 points on 17 shots is nothing to sneeze at. When he’s on, there aren’t many guys with his combination of three-point shooting and ability to get to the line.
-I would like to see better defensive execution from the B-team, especially with regards to dribble penetration. Earl Watson and Brandon Rush should not be combining for 32 points in an NBA game. (Yes, I realize Telfair is part of the reason for this phenomena.)
-Down the stretch, the Pacers got penetration and knocked down shots when the defense rotated. The Cavaliers got contested jumpers for Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker. One works better than the other.
-The Cavalier offense was desperately lacking some POWESMASH. Nine field goal attempts and only three free throw attempts is definitely weird for Leon.
-Delonte struggled with his shot, but had a season-high 12 assists and a +11 for the night. He also got ejected in a game that doesn’t count. Delonte West is incapable of not going all-out on a basketball court.
