-First off: OVERWHELMING response from people interested in helping out with the links. I love the enthusiasm. I’ll get back to all of you guys, but maybe not until after the deadline, because I am insanely busy right now.
-Here’s the latest on trades:
Right now, the picture I’m getting is that the Cavs have the Amar’e offer on the table, the Suns want a better one from another team, and the Cavs are waiting on the Suns to crack. They’re fairly confident, as they’re the only team that can get Phoenix under the luxury tax.
There were reports that the Cavs were interested in dealing Shaq for Jamison and Mike Miller. There were later reports that the initial reports were crap.
Apparently, the Cavs do have some interest in Corey Maggette, although Windhorst says he’s “down the list.”
Wojnarowski says that the most recent Jamison rumor has the Cavs sending Jamario Moon, Z’s contract, and a #1 pick for Jamison and Mike James. It’s unclear if the Cavs would prefer an Amar’e deal or a deal for Jamison.
Alright, that’s all I have for now. Life may return to normal in a couple of days, but right now everything’s changing by the minute.
God I hope Maggette is not a real thing. We’d apparently have to give up Danny Green to make everything work, and his garbage time shows promise.
I still think the smartest money is on AI, but that front seems kind of dead.
And breaking up Jawario? Say it ain’t so. I still don’t think the Jamison idea is good, just because of the fact that any move that’s not an AI move seems to be (at least in this speculative phase) not an immediate significant improvement with our team for THIS season, and certainly would appear to make us worse in the next few years. Then again, Mike Brown is already holding two aging bigs together with Scotch tape just fine…
We know Hickson can play off of Lebron and Shaq. That’s been splendidly illustrated in the past several weeks. However, we DON’T know how well Amare fits in. Considering the stretch of games coming up, it may go a very long way to determining whether or not we have homecourt over certain teams, and in my opinion can’t just be tossed out to be an adjustment period (almost certainly without Z, key cog in some of our better 5-man units, no less), UNLESS the team we get back is dramatically improved. Mike Brown’s been shown to be a more than serviceable coach, but it appears that it takes him quite a while to figure out what works and what doesn’t with certain personnel. Before you know it, we might be down 3-1 in a series with Orlando again and we might have at least a month of agonizing waiting as fans to hear The Announcement.
Long story short: Hickson can beat Orlando. Hickson can beat the Hawks. Hickson can beat the Lakers. I think homecourt is very important to the Cavs, considering that they’re 69-5 in the Q in games that matter since the beginning of last season (three of those losses by a combined 5 points) – no sense in throwing away a couple games in the standings in the next 30 days while we’re minus Z as well as in transition if it’s eventually going to cost us in a 7-game series against LA or whoever.
In conclusion, beans.
Jesus Cavs fans are insane with their over-valuing of their players. Danny Greens are about a dime a dozen in the NBA.
Just for you, of course. I still don’t see the point in trading for Maggette.
If we did do the trade for Maggette, any chance Anthony Randolph comes to the Cavs as well? Cause thats the only way I see the Cavs making the deal. I know Randolph is injured and will probably miss most of the season, but he would be a great prospect for the future, thats for sure.
While I am also not in favor of getting Maggette, keep in mind he is playing very well his year, career high in FG% and has a PER around 21. Does he fit a need? Not really, but if we get Z back in a buy-out it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever. It’d be better if we could get a future first round pick from GS, since they for sure won’t deal include their high lottery pick in a salary dump
Also, just because JJ did well in regular season games vs. LA and Orlando doesn’t mean that he will in the playoffs. You can bet your bottom dollar that Phil Jackson and SVG will game plan to take full advantage of JJ Hickson’s shortcomings, namely defense and not being a consistent jump shooter. It would be a lot better for the Cavs if we didn’t have to rely on JJ Hickson playing 20 minutes in a playoff game. Again, it worked in the regular season, no guarantee it happens again
There is no reason at all to take on Maggettes contract. You have to remember this is a money game, and his huge deal is a waste of money. It would just be smarter time spent developing a guy like Green for cheap instead of spending on a so-so player in Maggette.
Danny Green, JJ Hickson, smh…lol…Cav fans wouldnt trade Hickson, Green, West and a 2nd pick for Michale Jordan in his prime. Only Cavs fans feel they are getting the short end of the stick in a Hickson trade for Amare, Murphy, or AJ. Leave your homes go outside and hear what everyone around the world are sayng: “Hickson for Amare?!!? WTF”…Cav fans, “No we cant trade Hickson for any productive player at his position because he is the 2nd coming of Charles Barkley”
Can anyone please tell me what exactly makes Hickson so speacial. NBA fans feel this deal is worst than the Gasol trade and when you look at it you cant argue. Take the wine and gold sunglasses off so you guys can eliminate your bias views.
We cant trade a 2nd round rookie in Danny Green for someone who avg 21pts on 52% and would just be the sixth man for this team. (Magette). Besides Mo and Lebron the Cavs have no other consistent offensive player. If Lebron has an off night with this current roster the Cavs automatically lose
Dude, you’ve trolled on other threads to much. First of all, no1 knows wtf SMH means. Second of all, most cavs fans want to deal Hickson for Amare, stop acting otherwise. Third, read closer, MONEY MATTERS. If money didn’t exist in the world of sports then of course you trade for Maggette, unfortunately, it does and Maggette flat out gets paid way to much to bring him in when it isn’t a team need. I know it’s easy to say Gilbert should just do it and spend the money, but of course it’s always easy when it isn’t your money.
Finally, LeBron has had off nights and the team has won…think IN ATLANTA?? And Magette would be about as consistent as Larry Hughes in a true half-court offense. So SMH.
And who is Michale Jordan? I know of a Michael Jordan.
Sorry, I had to troll back because the tone of your posts are really arrogant. They assume to much and really don’t paint a very good picture of reality. Sure, some cavs fans don’t want Amare for Hickson, but the vast majority do..so act accordingly.
There’s a difference between not being sold and not wanting certain players.
Maggette I don’t want. I don’t see what he brings to the team that we don’t have. Danny Green is on a rookie scale salary this year and next, while Maggette is owed $27 million 2010-2013 (more than Mo). Not only that, but where do his 31 minutes come from? We already have enough guards to cause a minutes problem assuming they’re all healthy, and the theoretical trade floated does not trade away any significant guard minutes in return for a fair amount.
Amare doesn’t have these problems (the difference in guard minutes is closer to 10), but I’m still not sold on a potential Amare deal. That being said, there are many worse players to get, and I think there would be a good chance to make it work. I’m wondering if considering the next (tough) stretch of games, though, we’d be sacrificing homecourt against the Lakers (which we proved we can do without on Christmas, but is still extremely important in my opinion).

Someone takes a look at the good and bad of Amare. He’s such a force on offense, and unlike Hickson, he has VERY sticky hands.
Here’s my rankings as of this second ;)
1. AMARE
2. Jamieson (keeping JJ)
3. Stand Pat
4. Murphy (keeping JJ)
5. Jamieson (losing JJ)
6. Maggette
7. Murphy (losing JJ)
I’m not one of those people who think JJ’s the second coming, but I’d rather keep JJ and get Jamison (if that’s really an option) than trade JJ for Amare. There’s no doubt Amare’s the better talent, but Jamison’s the better fit and with Amare the Cavs either a) lose JJ for a possible rental or b) lose JJ and get stuck paying Amare a contract for more money and more years than he’s worth. I’ve seen the argument made that it’s not Shaq, it was the slowed-down half court pace of Terry Porter that led Amare to not play as well with Shaq … well, guess what, we know the Cavs don’t exactly lead the league in pace.
In other words, if a soon-to-be-returned Z, Moon, and a low first round draft pick is really all that’s being asked of the Cavs, tell the Suns thanks but no thanks and pull the trigger on Jamison. Now. Moon for Jamison? Even more lop-sided than the Gasol trade.
Don’t even talk to me about Maggette (or as my wife said, “Who’s this ‘Maggot’ the Cavs are talking about trading for?”).
One more thing: why aren’t we hearing more about Wally’s contract in these rumors? He won’t land us Amare or Jamison by himself, but it seems like he could net us a decent role player. How nice would it be if we could throw in Wally’s contract and upgrade from Mike James to Mike Miller in the rumored Jamison trade (or hell, take them both to make the Wiz happy and cut James, which I’m assuming would happen anyway).
Maggette haters — he has been the single most efficient rotation player in the nba this season (excluding the weight given to usage rates) and he doesn’t need a ton of shots to get his 21 ppg — only 13 shots in 31 mins to get there. And, most importantly, he could be an option at 2 guard for when d west is unavailable thanks to his jailtime that will be coming. The cavs couldn’t use a slashing 2 guard who can create off the dribble? Come on!
And Danny Green is a nice player, but will Danny Green help us this year (or even, really next year)? NO. And he will probably never be a 20 pt a night guy.
That being said, Amar’e and Jamison deals must be a priority, and Maggette only as a fall back to those two.
Check out this player swap tool — switch Maggette with Parker and, based on past history from this season, the Cavs defense gets marginally worse, while the offense gets MARKEDLY better. Moreover, Maggette can create his own shot — something the Cavs sorely need for when LBJ is on the bench for his 8-10 minutes of nightly rest.

Jamison
Chad Ford: For weeks, sources close to the situation have asserted to ESPN.com that the Wizards were reluctant to trade Antawn Jamison. During the past 72 hours, however, the Wizards’ position on Jamison appears to have softened considerably.
Sources say the Wizards and Cavs had discussions on Tuesday about several potential deals that would send Jamison to Cleveland. The same sources said talks ended without a firm offer from Cleveland.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Wizards are waiting on the Cavs to see whether those potential deals become an actual trade.
“The ball is in Cleveland’s court,” one source told ESPN.com. “If Cleveland comes back with a firm offer based on the potential deals they discussed, I think the Wizards will move Jamison.”
The Wizards’ new stance on Jamison is being fueled by two factors. First, the trade of Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood for Josh Howard has left the team in rebuilding mode. And Jamison, who signed an extension with the club 18 months ago expecting to be on a contender, would like to be traded to a team with title aspirations.
“Jamison is a great guy,” one source said. “He’s been a model player for the Wizards on and off the floor. The Wizards don’t want to lose him. He’s been a rock in the locker room. However, I think the Wizards want to do right by him. He’s at the end of his career. He deserves to have a chance to win a title.”
The other factor is the Wizards are currently over the NBA’s luxury-tax threshold. At least one potential deal discussed with Cleveland on Tuesday (Jamison and Mike James for Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Jamario Moon) would put the Wizards below the tax this season. Getting below the tax could save the Wizards around $10 million this year once you factor in rebates that teams under the tax receive from the league.
If the Cavs decide to pull the trigger on the Amare Stoudemire deal instead, look for the Wizards to explore ways of trading Jamison during the summer.
if the cavs know whats best the y will make that trade with the wiz.keeping jj is a plus and you can mix your lineup different ways for different situation .
I can’t stress enough how bad of an idea Jamison is. He’s an old man with years left on his contract. And he’s not very efficient. What’s the point in being able to create your own shot if you’re going to do it below average? If the Cavs get Jamison, there will be no title in Cleveland this year, next year, or the year after that.
Bradley — Isn’t that a bit overstated? I mean, if you think the Cavs are good enough to win a title as is (and maybe you don’t), you really think adding Jamison for “nothing” is going to “cost” them a title? And by “nothing,” I mean that I’m assuming there’s no way Cleveland will give up Hickson in a deal for Jamison (I wouldn’t want to see them deal Moon either, per one of the recent rumors), and that Z would like come back after a buyout.
Jamison as the number 1 scoring option — which is what’s been most of the last 3 years due to Arenas’ injuries and suspension — is an inefficient scorer. But Jamison as the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th option on the floor with Lebron, Shaq, and/or Mo? I think that may work much better. Not to mention that never in his Wizards’ career did he play with a PG that could set up him as well as Lebron (or even Mo or Shaq, for that matter) will.
