ESPN debuted the first power rankings of the year. I think the Cavs should be a little higher than 28th, personally. There’s no way the Magic are going to be better than us, right? Here’s the link.

If Kyrie and Varejao are reasonably healthy, I think Cleveland will surprise people this year. If Kyrie gets hurt, it could get ugly, because there is no pro-quality, back-up point guard.
So….. The Hornets are now better than 1/3 of the league, Brooklyn is 12th (maybe if their starters are able to play 48 min a game each). Many questionable rankings here, except for Charlotte, they probably got that one dead on. Can’t wait for the season to start, because I am getting tired of all hate. Does no one remember how the Cavs were doing before Andy went down, and Kyrie was out too. I think I remember possible 8th seed projections. Now, with the addition of a proven hustle 7ft center, and a good SG, the Cavs are two spots removed from the worst team in the league.
I think they should be called the “Here are the standings from the end of last season, the Hornets got Anthony Davis, and the Lakers and the Nets made big trades” rankings.
I agree, Nathan. I understand these preseason rankings are really up to interpretation of the list maker, but I think the Cavs deserve to be five spots higher.
Meh, on a second look they weren’t as lazy as i thought, but the Cavs definitely got the short end of the stick here…they should be among the most improved teams in the league, barring injury.
I actually don’t have a problem with the ranking. Sure it could be a few spots higher, but overall not surprising at all. Using last year as the base (whcih I think is appropriate) then considering we lost our leading scorer in Jamison (as ineficient as he was) and lost a solid player in Parker. Then we added only unproven/rookie players and CJ Miles who hasn’t exacly been an all-star caliber player. So, there isn’t any real ‘proven’ reason to say the Cavs will be much better than this ranking.
I do believe that IF kyrie and Andy are healthy and IF TT is improved and IF Waiters plays like a #4 overall pick (or better), then obviously our ranking will increase. Something to keep in mind, these rankings are not intended to be predictive of how good a team will be, they are more a statement of how good a team currently is. So overall as of now, I don’t really think this ranking is horrible. Let us play a few real games and we’ll see what type of team we really have.
I think the Cavs should be somewhere in the 21-24 spot. After the 20th place, every team is mediocre and hoping for good luck. I think the Cavs, if healthy, could definitely surprise some people. Can’t wait for the new season.
