Jamison to Nets in Sign-and-Trade?

The Cavaliers may have taken the blame for killing a potential Dwight Howard-to-the-Nets trade, but it doesn’t appear as if the Nets are mad at them.
According to several tweets from Yahoo Sports, the Cavs have had discussions about sending veteran forward Antawn Jamison to the Nets in a sign-and-trade.
He’s gone, so anything the Cavs could get out of the deal is fine with me.
All I have to contribute is I love “Little Z” as a nickname for Zeller because it’s adorable and got me all sentimental thinking about Big Z.
Teams with lots of unfulfilled upside and no fulfilled potential turn into last years Wizards
I am actually against signing someone with unfulfilled upside we have TT, Little Z and Jones to fulfill that. I want a back up big who has maximized his potential through hard work. In other words an example ala Andy to force TT and Little Z to earn there time. Scola would be Ideal but I think he’ll get more than a 1 year deal and the cavs don’t want that.
No one is saying that, Cranky. I just want Zeller, TT, and Andy to get meaningful, consistent minutes. Of course we probably need 5 bigs.
@cranky, i’m not sure why this is hard to understand, but when we say we don’t want people taking minutes away from Zeller and TT we mean we want the frontcourt rotation to look like Andy: 30, TT: 25, Zeller: 25, Jones & D-League Flotsam: 15 and not Andy: 30, Above-Average PF X: 30, TT: 20, Zeller: 15 There’s no reason the second scenario is better than the first here. Yeah, i’m not saying we need to sign a great veteran or anything. But EVERY SINGLE TIME a player gets mentioned as a possibility for the Cavs, there’s a chorus of “they’ll steal minutes from so-and-so.” It’s a long season. Players get injured. Players get tired. I agree with cranky, but I want a big man with upside to fill that role. Kevin jones and/or samardo would be a perfect fit. Not darko or Scola.
We should sign someone like Matt barnes and take a flyer on a guy like Anthony Randolph (the current posterboy for unfulfilled potential but for the right price he’s worth it)
No, Darko is uniformly awful. Bad rebounder, bad scorer (45% TS last year), bad passer, turns the ball over. If he wasn’t the 2nd overall in 2003 he would have bounced out of the league years ago.
Please stop with all of the idiotic “they’ll take minutes from TT and Zeller” talk. It’s driving me g*****n insane. You can’t have just 3 f’ing bigs on the team, you need at least one more. Somebody has to play those minutes. Please shut up about stealing minutes from Zeller and Thompson.
Scola has been amnestied by Hou. That would be a quality pick up with our cap space. He has 3yrs on his contract at 21m.
I live in Minnesota; Darko is next to worthless. If we can get him for next to nothing, then fine, he’s as good as any other Tall White Guy. But not somehing I’d spend more than we spent on Erden last year.
We just need another big for injury/foul trouble. You’ve got 96 minutes a night to fill at C and PF. A rotation of Varejao playing 35, with TT and Zeller playing 30 each seems reasonable.
@KyrieShow if this happens I’ll take full responsibility. I think you will be mildly surprised at how average Darko is. A lot of people think he’s as bad as Kwame Brown. He’s not. I want to get better this year but not compromise cap space and I think Darko is one of those players that would help us win this year and and not need a multi year contract. If we are going to attract any free agents we can’t be one of the worst teams in the NBA.
They could seriously make a $2 million claim on Darko and it would be a bargain. You have to pay for bigs.
If Andy gets traded and I have to watch Darko play his position somebody is going to pay, probably you rodney mac for even suggesting the idea.
Or if Andy gets traded. Really I see no downside to picking him up
Lord Byron doesn’t like giving rookies tons of time right off the bat anyway. So having a average center to compete with Zeller and pick up minutes when Zeller or AV get hurt seems like a good idea. I also like the idea of bidding on the contract because then it will be easy to cut him to make space next year.
Regardless, we’ll need one more big man to take a few minutes and provide depth. If Varejao plays 32 minutes like he has the last two years and TT and Zeller combine for about 50 minutes, that leaves 10-15 minutes for someone to fill. That could be taken by Kevin Jones, Samardo, or any FA acquisition. I still think they will sign a center, albeit a terrible one a la Semih Erden, if only to keep Tristan at PF in the case of foul trouble or injury to Andy and Zeller.
sorry, just as an addendum to my previous post, in Darko’s situation, you could say we would “pick up” a small portion of Darko’s existing contract, as we are under the cap. However, that would only be if we were to put in a bid. According to Bucher, without a bid from anybody, he becomes an UFA.
I would have no problem whatsoever with picking up Darko. If he is amnestied, we don’t “pick up” any contract. We could get him for next to nothing, but I would think he finds a home for more than that. The fact is, he is not nearly as horrible as people think he is. He has trouble staying healthy and his draft position still haunts him, but we could do much much worse than having Darko in the frontline rotation for limited minutes. I doubt it happens though…. yes, rodney, exactly what we need. Someone to take time away from developing Zeller and TT and our second best player, Andy. Look, We need a 4th big, but for injury/foul reasons only. When healthy, I really only want Zeller, Andy, and Thompson getting time. If we can get Darmo for next to nothing and he’s cool with playing 5-10 minutes a game, sure. But really, who cares what vets we get who play 5-10 minutes a game. Might as well be samardo or someone with potential.
Rumor is Wolves are going to amnesty Darko. He has 2 years 10 million with only 7 guaranteed. I think this would be a great contract for the Cavs to pick up. Cavs could easily cut him next year if they want to and He would fill are void at Center allowing AV and TT to split PF and Darko and Zeller to split Center.

He has a bruised heel and won’t be in the summer league. But he does have an invite to training camp.
A little off topic here, but this seems to be the most informed group of Cavs finds I can find….has anyone heard anything about Kevin Jones? There was a blurb the Cavs signed him as an undrafted FA about a week ago, but there’s been nothing mentioned about him locally, he doesn’t show up on their ESPN roster, and he’s not on the summer league team.
Anyone know anything?
