Who do Cavs:the Blog readers want to see Draft profiles on?
2012-05-23I have notes on games for several players that I haven’t profiled yet, including Doron Lamb, Darius Miller, Kevin Murphy, Kyle O’Quinn, Kendall Marshall, Marquis Teague and Tyshawn Taylor. At some point between now and draft day, I plan on profiling each of them, plus the two highest rated Europeans: Fournier and Satoransky.
Here is a list of players that I don’t have notes on that could be considered for a Cavs:the Blog profile. Some are pretty far fetched for the 24, 33 or 34 picks, but I figured a wide range of options could be offered. Let me know your preferences and I’ll do my best to cover the most mentioned (Edit: I’m sure 99% of likely commenters are aware of this, but the comments page has been loading slowly. I like iso’s idea. As the lottery gets closer, I would still like to see a mock draft from the writers prior to the draft if only that.
So as a recent graduate of UK (grad school not undergrad) I watched Darius Miller become the solid player that he is. I think he was the reason that this team of freshman won the tournament.
Wine and Gold for Darius? Good wing defender. Shoots the three. Gets to the rim. Strong leadership potential and work ethic. For a second round pick we could do worse. . . .. .Thoughts?

This is a bit off topic, but it would be nice if there were some “Cavs The Blog: Mock Drafts” where all of the writers (Kevin, Colin, etc.) would make a mock draft 2-3 times before the draft (like one after the lottery and one right before the draft).

I am telling myself that your request is because I have committed to profile all the players that you are interested in…not because you think the profiles are worthless.
Regardless, I’ve become too obsessive about “draft experting” to stop now.
Cover Jae Crowder – Marquette… or as I like to call him, a poor man’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Will Barton from Memphis and Damian Lillard from Weber State would also be interesting.
For me the only players I’m intrigued by are Barton cuz I think he’s under-rated and has NBA skills and athleticism and somewhat oddly, mike Scott because his PER is really, really good and I read somewhere recently that his advance stats compare quite favorably to recent rookies who’ve had NBA success. Wish I could remember where I read that…anyway, guy sounds like a total sleeper that might be a complete steal at 34…
So far, I’m seeing a decent amount of love for Scott Machado, Jae Crowder and Will Barton. That’s a good start. Did anyone see that Darius Odom Johnson measured like 6’2″ in socks?

I noted that Mike Scott and Virginia’s advanced stats were similar to Jon Leuer and Wisconsin last year, and Leuer had a similarly productive NBA stint this year to his senior year at UW. That’s probably not what you’re thinking of though.
Seems like the cavs should look to add wing depth with at least one of the second rounders. I’d like to hear about more of the possiblities there. Especially intrigued by Jae Crowder, Will Barton, and Kevin Murphy. Also, I would like to hear more about Scott Machado. He put up impressive numbers in college, but does he have enough athleticism to play in the NBA? Is there a chance he could become an Eric Maynor-type player, who could keep the offense steady when Kyrie sits? Definitely need to examine at least two foreign players. I think a solid scorer like Scott Machado, Will Barton, or Orlando Johnson would be good players for draft profiles. I also would personally be interested in Andrew Nicholson (reminds me of Antwan Jamison), Jae Crowder (like Kenneth Faried), and Darius Johnson Odom (like Jameer Nelson). I’ve seen Nicholson at #24 for some mock drafts and Machado, Crowder, and Johnson Odom picked up in the early second round in others.
With luck the Cavs will have their choice of either Beal or MKG with that first lottery pick.
Then maybe take the best player available like a big Center or SF with the 24th i.e. one of the many Kentucky players that are left on the board, Hawkins from St. Johns, Fab Melo, etc.
Yeah I am liking one or two of this short list with the second round picks.

Ethan, As the early part of the season went on and it was apparent that Kyrie was awesome, Varejao was in beast mode, and Gee may be an NBA player; I decided to occassionally post something that focused on the present. I’d like to hear more about players we could get with the 33rd and 34th pick so how about Scott Machado doing good in the work outs and could come off the beach for the cavs in his first year or Kim English a shooter who could be a great shooter to put by Kyrie. Also great job so far keep up the good work.
I’d like to learn a little more on Kyle O’Quinn considering I only saw him play in two games (and only one of those was competitive).

Satoransky is VERY intriguing. Fran Franschilla raved about his potential.
Huge reach at 34 even but William Buford.
