Pre-Weekend Programming Notes
2010-01-15Well, it’s not the best day ever to be a Cavs fan, but there is some good news today here at Cavs: The Blog.
This site is just over a year old now, and since that time It’s been all me. (Brian Spaeth always has an open invite to post here, and did use it once, but he’s been kinda busy writing novels, making movies, and generally being a transmedia superstar.)
There are a lot of reasons for why that’s been the case, some of them logistical and some of them philosophical. But after a year of working very, very hard and hopefully establishing this website and its perspective, the time has come to add some new blood.
The first addition to the staff here is Ryan Braun, who I found through his Cavs blog. He’s got a lot of stuff on his plate in the real world and hasn’t been able to keep his blog going very well, but the man has a knack for recaps, and has shown a consistently intelligent and well thought out viewpoint on the Cavs and their players when he does them. Taking both of those factors into consideration, Ryan will unofficially be the guest host here at Cavs: The Blog. I’m fortunate enough to almost never miss a Cavs game, and I genuinely enjoy recapping them.
But tomorrow night, I’ll be in Vegas, and can guarantee I won’t be writing a recap. I don’t forsee conflicts like this coming up very often at all, but if they do, Ryan is going to be the first guy I contact, and have full confidence that he’ll do a great job filling in. So get excited for his recap of Saturday’s game, and welcome him aboard.
The second addition is more substantial, and one I’m really excited about. Mark Cameron of Numbers Don’t is going to moonlight here as a columnist. The main reason I’m excited is that Mark brings something that this website hasn’t had yet, which is innovative and intriguing hard-core statistical analysis based on some very slick play-by-play data. The current plan is that Mark will post here once a week, so get excited. Mark is a native of Youngstown, Ohio, and is currently a senior at Pittsburgh.
Those are the additions. If you’d like to know why these decisions were made, I plead that you contact me and ask. My e-mail, as always, is johnkrolik@gmail.com, I’m on Twitter, I’m on Facebook, and I’m an all-around easy guy to reach, and I read everything I get.
But overall, this site is in no way intended to be the only perspective on the Cavaliers on the internet. There’s tons and tons of great Cavs coverage out there, and I do daily links to try and point you guys to the important news and compelling coverage. I have a blogroll; it’s meant to be used. Use google and look for Cavs sites.
There are independent sites like Waiting For Next Year, and the Cavs have an extremely web-savvy beat writer who’s also excellent at his job. Some of the commenters here, like Colin and BradleyH, even have blogs of their own. If you see a blue name in the comments, click on it. It’s an exciting time to be a sports fan, and new voices are emerging every day.
Alright folks, I’m off for the weekend. Be nice to the sub on Saturday, and be well.
@Rich: Not only was the road trip tough, but when you factor in the way the Cavs lost those two games (buzzer-beater, and down to the wire in Denver), I mean, the Cavs realistically could have gone 5-0 on this road trip. Depending on how you view things (Im a glass half-full kind of person), Id say that makes the road trip more impressive. But there’s no denying the Cavs have the most favorable schedule of any of the four Eastern contenders coming up before the break… I actually wrote something on it. Although, I guess when you really break… Read more »
let’s just keep a perspective..if the Cavs win tonight thats 3-2 on a super tough road trip and basically the end of the 1.5 road games per home game routine for the seaosn. The two losses would have been in Denver and in Utah, places that have ALWAYS been tough to play. My hunch is the cavs will blow out the Clips tonight and LeBron will just go offf…of course LeBron going off means he will get criticized for “breaking up the offense”..w/e that means.
Thanks for putting me in the post John. You put me in the post more often than Mike Brown puts LeBron there.
John, You are a very talented writer. I’m a SLC native and long-time Jazz fan. I stumbled across your blog after looking for news on this great Jazz-Cavs game. Here’s the funny thing, and a lead-up to my point; I went to bed thinking the Jazz had lost! (My Direct TV recording ran out with 32 seconds left in the game – ARRRRRGHH!) I didn’t find out till the next morning about the incredible ending (probably the 2nd best ending ever for the Jazz after the immorttal “John Stockton sends the Utah Jazz to the NBA finals!” shot) I would… Read more »
Why does this feel like goodbye, JK?
Also, I have been waiting for Ryan “LeBraun” to update his blog… He baited us all in with delightful daily recaps before going into one-post-in-30-days mode and I am still having withdrawal shakes.
I can’t wait for the altered beast version of the Cavs to win by 30 tonight and then go back into their “we deserve to win without playing hard” routine until the Mamba game on Thursday.
I’m excited to see the blog grow. Have fun in Vegas JK!
